ANOTHER MONTH OF WAITING TO DETERMINE THE FUTURE OF THE HELM BANK.
The turmoil of the international market could have a direct impact in the operation, and could freeze it until the markets are stabilize.
At the beginning of the month, three majors banks or holdings were in the final list for the prize, but until now there has been no news related with the sale of the Helm Bank.
This three banks or holdings are Corpbanca (chilean company that bought the Santander Bank, and is very expose to the European Crisis, which is making them think about this acquisition because could substract liquidity to face big problems); BBVA (spaniard bank, which is also very expose to the Spaniard Crisis with all the losses in the real state sector that could rise until 250 billion euros, and they might also be thinking through this purchase possibility); and Grupo Aval (colombian company that owns a series of local banks such as Banco de Bogota, being this one the largest bank of the group, but that is also at the expectation of what will happen with the international markets because they could put in march a preventive policy and recalculate the value of the assets of the Helm Bank in order to get a good deal. In any event is in better position than the other two companies, because they are a healthy company in a strong banking sector that offers very good conditions to make a move into an expansion of operations).
But in any event, analysts agree that any of those three banks or holdings will freeze the operation at least for another month in order to put the right price into their offers.
What will you do? Would you buy or would you walk away?
